Description
To calculate the total control cable length required, use the following calculation as a guide.
Add. A + B + C and subtract 10cm (4") for each bend in the cable (90 degrees). For installation through the engine tilt tube, add 30,5cm (1ft) to the measurement calculated above. To order the correct foot length divide by 30,5 and round off to next whole foot.
Example calculation for outboard steering tube installation (fig 1)
A (50cm) + B (250cm) + C (80cm) = 380cm - 20cm for two bends (90 degrees) = 360 + 30,5 for tilt tube installation = 390,5cm : 30,5 = 12,8ft. Round off to 13ft.
Example calculation of transom installation, or splashwell mounting (fig. 2 and 3)
A (50cm) + B (250cm) + C (80cm) = 380cm - 20cm for two bends (90 degrees) = 360 : 30,5 = 11,8ft. Round off to 12ft.
NOTE!
One major point of attention in choosing a steering system is the length of the cable. Cables will be installed in different boats and so in different ways, which means that the lengths given here will differ from the needed length.
